I'm Interested. Now what?
Please contact me directly. You can directly communicate through the Contact Me page on this website, by emailing me at [email protected], or by telephoning me at 646-408-6233. I will respond when I'm not in-session.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes! I am currently in-network with Aetna and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC). The following BCBSNC benefit plans are covered: the State Health Plan, PPO, Indemnity, Blue Care, and HMO. The following benefit plans are not covered: Blue Value POS, Blue Local with Atrium Health, All Other POS, Medicare Advantage, All EPO, All Other HMO, Blue Local with Wake Forest Baptist Health, and Blue Home with UNC Health Alliance. I can also accept out-of-network clients. With out-of-network clients, I can offer a Superbill to be submitted for reimbursement.
how do i verify if my insurance covers my sessions?
You are responsible for verifying your specific insurance coverage before sessions. Here are some helpful questions to ask your carrier before our initial session:
- Do I have mental health insurance benefits?
- What is my deductible and has it been met?
- How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
- What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
- Is approval required from my primary care physician?
- Must I get pre-approved authorization from my carrier to initiate services?
what is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations and re-scheduled sessions will be subject to a full charge if NOT RECEIVED AT LEAST 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE. This is necessary because a time commitment is made to you and is held exclusively for you. If you are late for a session, you may lose some of that session time.
Where are you located?
Chris Burner Somatic Psychotherapy is currently located at 1010 Lamond Ave. in Durham, NC.
how do I start the process of becoming a new client?
It's very easy. We will communicate initially through phone call or email to assess clinical and therapeutic fit. If we mutually agree to work together, I will then send you a link to my HIPAA-compliant client portal, where you can complete all necessary documentation before our first session. You can upload your insurance information, as well as payment information into the portal so that each individual session can be strictly focused on healing.
do you work with children?
I currently do not see children. I work with young adults (20 years old+) and adults.
do you offer evening or weekend hours?
I currently work weekdays (Monday-Thursday) from 9 AM- 5 PM.
what are your social media policies?
Due to the importance of your confidentiality and the importance of minimizing dual relationships, I do not accept friend or contact requests from current or former clients on any social networking site (Facebook, LinkedIn, etc). I believe that adding clients as friends or contacts on these sites can compromise your confidentiality and our respective privacy. It may also blur the boundaries of our therapeutic relationship. If you have questions about this, please bring them up when we meet and we can talk more about it.
what are some of the issues clients work on in session?

- Depression
- Grief
- Life Transitions
- Men's Issues

WHAT COLLEAGUES ARE SAYING:
"Working alongside Chris for the last few years was a pleasure. He is incredibly empathetic, patient, and astute. I would not hesitate to recommend any of my own clients who would benefit from his skill set and energy."--Katherine Nguyen, ATR-BC, LPC, Washington, D.C.
"Chris is not only an attuned therapist, he creates a non-judgmental place of safety to address any and all concerns. He is able to push and challenge necessary limits while holding space for intense feelings and ambiguity. His knowledge of multiple therapeutic techniques allows him to provide practical solutions yet encourages introspection. In short, he pushes you to think while providing tools to use in the process."--Dr. Rashika Rentie, PhD., The Psych Group LLC., Alexandria, VA
